CSR Policy

In all parts of the world, FCM Travel Solutions values and advocates responsible travel, conservation of natural resources and sustainability. Around the world, we aim to give back to the community and nurture a corporate culture in which all members of our global family respect the environment, and play a willing role in our protection of the environment.

FCM's parent company, Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) has formal structures and procedures in place to underpin its corporate social responsibility platform. For us, responsible travel means operating our business in a manner that respects the environment and wildlife, and benefits local people, their cultures and economies.

Environmental Sustainabiliy

While FCTG has always endorsed responsible tourism and has sought to have minimal environmental impact, the company’s Board is committed to enhancing the company’s record in this important area.

Carbon Emissions

FCTG is working to reduce office-related emissions by adopting a number of initiatives as outlined below. In most of its individual countries of operation, the company has also established direct links with environmental groups to provide customers with the option of offsetting emissions related to their personal and corporate travel.

Energy Consumption

We are actively working to reduce energy usage by:

  • using sensor lighting in all head office locations andinstalling energy efficient lighting in new tenancy areas
  • minimising after hours air-conditioning use and installing blinds to minimise cooling and heating costs
  • installing energy-efficient multi-purpose devices to reduce the number of appliances in use and encouraging staff to switch off equipment when not in use

Recycling and Waste

We have taken significant steps to reduce its waste by:

  • printing only when necessary, moving towards double-sided copying and ensuring recycling bins are accessible
  • reducing packaging and using recycled, unbleached paper for printed materials
  • making publications available online
  • donating old computers and cell phones to charities for re-use

Find out how FCTG is reducing it's environmnetal impact through shop design and commuting model.

Responsible Travel

FCTG is undertaking a company-wide project with the goal of aligning our current and future business practices with globally accepted principles of responsible travel.

For us, Responsible Travel means operating our business in a manner that respects and benefits local people, their cultures, economy and the environment. Our aim is to be able to clearly demonstrate that FCTG is committed to operating with integrity and respecting fundamental responsibilities in the areas of human rights, the environment, and social equality.

Our first step in this process is the creation of a Responsible Travel Charter outlining our company commitment to support and develop travel that respects the social and physical dimensions of the destinations that are part of travel experiences we deliver to our customers.

We are also a contributing member of the U.N. Global Compact. The UNGC is a United Nations initiative to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report on their implementation.

Responsible Travel Charter

The Responsible Tourism Charter introduces and establishes the 4 Pillars or areas where we believe our company has the best opportunity to create positive change.
Social - To build a brighter future in the communities where we work, live and travel, promote closer ties and respect among people and cultures, and offer a helping hand in times of need.
Environment - To support tourism activities that promote environmental awareness, conserve and protect the environment and respect wildlife.
Wildlife - To take steps to understand and prevent animal cruelty from being a part of tourism.
Economic - To make a positive contribution to the economies of the destinations where we work, live and travel, and ensure that there is equal sharing of the benefits and burdens of tourism.

U.N. Global Compact

The overarching focus of the UNGC is corporate sustainability. The UNGC calls for companies to operate responsibly in alignment with universal principles, take strategic actions that support the society around them and to push sustainability deep into the corporate identity.
There are 10 Principles underpinning the UNGC and these are grouped into four areas:
  1. 1. Human Rights
  2. 2. Labour
  3. 3. Environment
  4. 4. Corruption

Our People

Gender Diversity

With a workforce consisting of 72% female representation, we strive to ensure that all of our policies and procedures work to benefit our people for an equal opportunity to succeed. We encourage internal mobility and work with our people to map out an individual path to success (called ‘Brightness of Future’).

Our people are our number one priority and their Brightness of Future, equal privileges and rights are central to the way we operate.

Flight Centre is committed to having a representation of senior female executives and Board members that is more reflective of the gender balance across the company, and has a range of strategies, policies and practices in place to make this happen. We believe as a global player in the travel industry that we have the opportunity to lead the way and bring about change to this sector.

We have key groups at all levels of the company to implement our strategies and vision, so that all women and men are equally represented, valued and rewarded.
